Dissertation/Thesis committees

Ph.D. Dissertation Committee

The major professor will act as the Chair of the Ph.D. Dissertation Committee. The student, in consultation with the major professor and the graduate adviser, selects two additional faculty members. The Dean of Graduate Studies must approve the members of the committee. This should be done as soon as possible following passing of the qualifying examination by submission of the advancement to candidacy form, signed by the Chair of the qualifying committee and the graduate adviser. The student is expected to meet regularly, but no less than once a year, with the committee to report on plans and progress.

Master's Thesis Committee

The major professor will act as the Chair of the Master's Thesis Committee. The student, in consultation with the major professor and the graduate adviser, chooses two additional faculty members. The committee should be formed no later than the end of Spring quarter of the first year in residence. The Dean of Graduate Studies must approve the members of the committee following submission of the Candidacy for the Master's of ... form. The student is expected to meet regularly, but no less than once a year, with the committee to report on plans and progress.
